The 8th International Workshop on Materials Behavior at Micro- and Nano-Scale was held in Nan Yang Hotel, Xi'an, on the morning of June 1st. The workshop organized by Center for Advancing Material Performance from the Nanoscale (CAMP-Nano) and State Key Laboratory for Mechanical Behavior of Materials of Xi’an Jiaotong University will last three days.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Evan Ma and Prof. Zhiwei Shan, the organizers of this workshop welcomed all the invited speakers and attendants. After the opening remarks, the honorary professorship conferment ceremony to Prof. Robert Ritchie, Professor of UC Berkeley and Member of the National Academy of Engineering, was held. Prof. Jun Sun, the Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering, conferred Prof. Ritchie the offer of honorary professor. And then, Prof. Ritchie gave an attractive speech titled "Conflicts of strength and toughness: concepts of intrinsic vs. extrinsic toughening applied to biomaterials and advanced multi-element metallic alloys". After this section, Prof. Zhefeng Zhang, A.P. Ying Chen, Prof. Evan Ma and A.P. Michael Demkowicz gave their well-prepared presentation and answers to their audiences on the workshop.
