author:Jiewen & Rui Guo   time:2016-05-27

On May 26th, Rodney S. Ruoff, UNIST Distinguished Professor and Director of the Center for Multidimensional Carbon Materials (CMCM), visited CAMP-Nano and gave a vivid lecture at Room 205, School of Material Science and Engineering (MSE).

Prof. Ruoff first briefly introduced CMCM, an Institute of Basic Science (IBS) Center located at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) campus, and discussed the IBS and UNIST as well. Then, he shared his own perspective about several types of new carbons and related materials, including ‘negative curvature carbons’, ‘diamane’ and related ultrathin sp3-bonded carbon films/foils, sp2/sp3-hybrid materials, new routes to making diamond, and some others. Finally, he mentioned some of their discoveries on carbon and related systems.

In the free discussion session, professors and students from MSE raised various questions about his work, and Prof. Ruoff responded to all the questions in a convincing and informative way.
