“More efforts, greater platform, superior talents, more fruitful achievements”, this is quoted from President Shuguo Wang’s remark and expectation for disciplinary leading researchers and team leaders of MSE (Material Science and Engineering) during his visit in School of MSE on Nov 19. 2014. This talk laid the solid foundation of which way to go and measures to be taken in the construction of Material Science and Engineering discipline arena.
Prof.Jun Sun, the dean of MSE, stated in his presentation that joint effort have been made and great scientific research results have been achieved in recent years, the team of Material Science and Engineering discipline improved their capacity in mastering the task of research projects, in stepping forward by leaps and bounds in the quality and quantity of academic papers, as well in the technological innovation nation-wide and world-wide.Prof. Sun also reported the potential of future development and strategic plan of Material Science discipline construction.
MSE is one of the first core discipline promoted by Chinese government to better meet the challenge and growing need of Material research. School of MSE is now consisted of four researching branched with the State Key laboratory for Mechanical Behavior of Materials as the central scientific research base. As for the four branches, it is worthy of mentioning that all of them have made great contribution for the discipline construction in school of MSE and the four branches are surface materials’ performance leading by Prof.Changjiu Li, Prof. Kewei Xu and Prof.Yong Han; high-performance materials and applications leading by Prof.Xiaobin Ren, Prof.Xiaoping, Prof. Jianfeng Yang, mechanical behavior of material science leading by Prof.Jun Sun, Prof.Zhiwei Shan, Prof Xiangdong Ding, Material service performance leading by Prof. Jiandong Xing, Prof.Yimin Gao and Jianxun Zhang.
Experts in this conference had a heat discussion and put forward some practical suggestions for the disciplinary construction and development of material science and engineering. Plans such as adjust the strategic direction and platform development as well as the communication and sharing system are regarded as quite valuable and helpful.
President Shuguo Wang spoke highly of the research results the MSE have gained in the past years and noted that XJTU will stand firmly behind MSE and provide feasible support to help MSE with any difficulties that might be encounter in the coming days, hopefully that the discipline of material science and Engineering will be more outstanding, more prosperous and more preponderant.
