Prof. John Morris conferred honorary professor of Xi’an Jiaotong University
On the morning of June 23, Prof. Tianjian Lu, the vice-president of Xi’an Jiaotong University, awarded Prof. John Morris the offer of honorary professor.
John William Morris Jr. is a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, where he has been a faculty member since 1971. His research focused on the mechanical properties of materials, particularly for high strength steel and microelectronic solders. He is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Metallurgical Society (TMS), the Materials Research Society (MRS) and the ASM, International, and Honorary Member of the Iron and Steel Institute of Japan and the Japanese Society of Metals. He has been appointed honorary professor of the Institute of Metal Physics (Shenyang) and the Institute of Science and Technology (Wuhan). He is a recent recipient of the John Bardeen Award (TMS) and the NIMS Award for research in Structural Materials (Japan).
After the award ceremony, Prof. Morris gave a lecture named “Mechanical Behavior at the Limit of Strength”.
