From June 1st to 3rd, The 9th International Workshop on Materials Behavior at the Micro-and Nano-Scale, which was organized by CAMP-Nano and State Key Laboratory for Mechanical Behavior of Materials of Xi’an Jiaotong University, was successfully held at International Conference Hall of Nan Yang Hotel. The workshop aims at establishing a platform for scientists, researchers and engineers working in the field of micro- and nano-scale materials to promote academic exchanges and share ideas.
On the opening ceremony of June 1st, Prof. Jun Sun and Prof. Evan Ma gave the opening remarks and welcomed all the invited speakers and attendees. Then Prof. Evan Ma gave a speech on the topic of “The Four “R’s” to Tailor GUMs and Soft Spots in Metallic Glasses for Better Deformability”, which made a good start for the whole workshop.
During the next three days, 27 invited reports and 7 oral reports were delivered. The topics of these reports covered several frontier research fields in material science, including magnesium alloys, in-situ TEM investigations, twinning, nanomaterials, etc. Particularly, among all the speakers, there were not only well-known scholars but also some PhD students from CAMPNANO. Despite their inexperience, they all made such excellent presentations that they are highly praised by present scholars. Later on, students and scholars had more face-to-face communications during the poster session.
On the closing ceremony of June 3rd, Prof.Zhiwei Shan gave the concluding remark. He thanked all the presenters and attendees, as well as the organizers and volunteers. He also mentioned all the sponsors and appreciated their support. Then he announced the winners of Poster session, they are Mingshuai Ding, Yuecun Wang and Rongrong Zhang respectively. In addition, Hitachi XHRDC Scholarship was awarded to Meng Li for her invention of a novel heating protochip used in TEM. At the end of the ceremony, Prof.Zhiwei Shan envisioned that next year’s Workshop would be held in joint with the Ke-xin Guo Electron Microscopy Symposium, which will make the scale of the meeting even larger.
For this year, the workshop attracts about 140 participants from twenty more universities and institutes, including University of Pittsburgh, University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, University of Nevada, Tsinghua University, etc.
