Two CAMPers attended the conference honored Prof. Subra Suresh on his sixtieth birthday
Two CAMPers, Prof. Zhiwei Shan was invited to attend the International Conference “Research, Innovation and Leadership at the Crossroads of Science, Engineering and Medicine” held at IMDEA Materials Institute (Getafe, Madrid, Spain) on June 15-17, 2016. Dr. R. Lakshmi Narayan, who had been carrying out the research at CAMP-Nano since May 19th, 2016, also attended the conference. He is one of the post-docs of Prof. Suresh in Carnegie Mellon University. His poster on the fatigue of MGs finished with some CAMPers in our center was awarded the best prize.
This conference was the initiative of a group of friends and colleagues to honor Prof. Subra Suresh on occasion of his sixtieth birthday. During his highly distinguished career, Prof. Suresh has consistently made pioneering contributions in different scientific fields and provided leadership through key positions in education, research and public service. A large number of students, post-doctoral scholars and researchers, whom he worked with and mentored, now occupy prominent positions in academia, industry and government across the globe. The conference brought together some of the leaders in the areas of materials, mechanics, biological materials, and academic and research administration together from across the globe. Through several keynote presentations and round table discussions, this conference provided an opportunity for the thought leaders in these areas to (re)connect and discuss the frontier topics in the aforementioned areas as well as the intersections of them, and identify wider issues pertaining to materials/mechanics research and education.
