The Opening of 11th International Workshop on Materials Behavior at Micro- and Nano-Scale

The 11th International Workshop on Materials Behavior at Micro- and Nano-Scale organized by the School of Material Science and Engineering, State Key Laboratory for Mechanical Behavior of Materials, Center for Advancing Materials Performance from the Nanoscale (CAMP-Nano), Department of International Cooperation & Exchanges of Xi’an Jiaotong University was held in 101 Room of Science Building on June 8th.
The opening ceremony began at 8:00 in the morning. Prof. Guang Xi, vice-president of Xi’an Jiaotong University, warmly welcomed the participants and introduced the history of XJTU, the Spirit of Migration to the West, and the construction of Western China Science & Technology Innovation Harbor Wisdom Uni-Town.
Professor Evan Ma, as the opening speaker of the workshop, delivered a report named Sub-nanometer Structure Control Breaks Speed Record for Phase-change Memory based on an article issued on Science last year. As he always does, the report developed by answering ten questions he brought forward. Subsequently, Prof. Wei Zhang and Prof. Ming Xu continued focusing on the phase-change materials, and reported the applications on non-volatile memory and high-density data storage respectively. Prof. Dashan Shang from Institute of Physics CAS also introduced nonvolatile memory based on magnetoelectric effect.
There were 13 reports today, 6 in the morning and 7 in the afternoon. Professor Litao Sun, Jianzhong Yuan, Jian Luo, Jian Wang, Kui Du, Michael Short, Yong Zhu, Han Huang, and Matteo Seita also delivered excellent reports on their own fields successively. The topics refer to in situ TEM study on Sub-10nm Materials, JEOL, grain boundary complexions, etc.
In the next two days, 26 reports will be presented, focusing on experimental and theoretic researches about traditional materials, biological materials, materials relative to energy and battery, etc. The poster meeting will be held at MSE New Building at 19:00 tomorrow. There will be gold, silver and bronze awards, which will be awarded to the top few students selected by participating experts and scholars. Welcome to attend!
