Specialization: Development of advanced electron microscopy and in-situ electron microscopy and their applications in materials science research.
Work Experience:
Professor Xiaofeng Zhang joined the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2024, where he serves as the director of the XJTU-NIN-Hitachi Joint Research Center. His current researches are centered on advancing in situ electron microscopy technology and exploring its applications within the field of materials science. Professor Zhang holds a Ph.D. from the University of Antwerp in Belgium and has honed his expertise in four prestigious national research centers in Germany and the USA, respectively, including the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His extensive research portfolio encompasses electron microscopy of high-Tc superconductors, carbon nanotubes, nanomaterials, high-temperature structural ceramics, and semiconductors. With over 100 peer-reviewed publications, Professor Zhang's work has been cited more than 10,000 times. Additionally, he has served as a funding proposal reviewer for the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the USA and a project reviewer for several national user facilities. His career later shifted to the electron microscope manufacturing and nanomaterials industries, where he occupied a senior technical leadership role.
