The meeting commenced at 2:15 PM, after everyone extended a warm welcome to President Wang. Following the short opening remarks given by Xiaohua Cheng, Prof. Zhiwei Shan, Director of CAMP-Nano delivered a report on the plans to develop and establish an international platform for Materials Science and CAMP-Nano’s role in it. The presentation included a detailed analysis of the strengths and achievements of the education program by the school of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE) and its impact in the international community. He also introduced aspects of the Indian education system as a starting point for collaborative endeavors. The report attracted a lot of interest and appreciation from the attendees.
 

After Prof. Shan’s report, President Wang was invited to give a speech. He lauded the achievements of CAMP-Nano and laid down his expectations from all the campers. He started his speech by sharing his reading experiences at a young age. He stated that many sentences and thoughts he encountered as a young man remained elusive to him for a long time but as he grew up, those very thoughts helped him shape his character and personality. His most memorable quote was: “Go read more books, even those which seem to have no practical use. Because, when you read and ponder over topics such as philosophy, your thinking will be subtly enriched and help you to become a better man.”

 

The room was quiet as each attendee listened with heightened interest. After its conclusion, all of them felt that they learnt a wonderful political lesson. They got exposed to great ideas which included the values and concepts of Xi’s strategy of the Belt and Road with a detailed explanation of its effect on our country and the world. Applying Xi’s way of thinking and governance in our personal lives was also explained logically and beautifully by President Wang. He then moved on to discuss the development of XJTU where he shared the news of on-going construction of the Western Science and Technology Innovation Area with inputs regarding its importance and value addition to the university. He said that the program has gained strong support from the country and the native province. The start and development of the new area will propel XJTU to the top of the most prestigious universities in our country and even around the whole world.

 

The whole speech lasted for about 1.5 hrs. After that, attendees expressed their appreciation of the school’s strategy and development and their determination to work on self-improvement. At 5:00 pm, President Wang left and the attendees continued exchanging their views on the speech until 6 pm. All attendees unanimously agreed that they were inspired and derived high levels of motivation from this meeting.
