Led by Prof. Zhiwei Shan, 7 campers (4 Ph.d candidates and 3 master students), participated in the summer school of ‘multiscale theory, modeling and experiment in solid mechanics‘ (固体的多尺度理论、实验与模拟暑期高级讲习班) in full from Aug. 23th to 27th, 2015. The summer school was held in the beautiful campus of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, funded by National Science Foundation of China. All 7 teachers are famous professors awarded as distinguished young scholars, setting the summer school at a high level. The following is a brief course list:
- Yueguang Wei(魏悦广)from Institute of Mechanics, CAS: Trans-scale mechanical characterization and application of advanced material and structure
- Bin Liu (刘彬) from Tsinghua University: Large-scale multiscale computational methods and research on materials mechanical properties.
- Zhiwei Shan (单智伟) from Xi’an Jiaotong University: Latest advancement in experimental technology for micro- and nanoscale solid mechanics and its application
- Xu Guo (郭旭) from Dalian University of Technology: Quasi-continuum methods for micro- and nanoscale mechanical analysis
- Yujie Wei (魏宇杰) from Institute of Mechanics, CAS: From continuum model to molecular scale mechanism
- Shaoxing Qu (曲绍兴) from Zhejiang University: Strength and toughness of micro- and nanoscale metals: theory and modeling
- Huiling Duan (段慧玲) from Peking University: Multiscale modeling of irradiation effects in mechanical properties of metals
All the lectures were of high quality, ranging from fundamental math and physics to detailed advanced analysis, so that they were highly rated by the over 100 listeners in the summer school.
“In CAMP-Nano, we focus on experimental techniques and phenomenon, but the theoretical analysis and modeling is our major weakness. This summer school invited 6 established theoretical and modeling masters to teach us, I learned a lot from the summer school” said Yuecun Wang, a second year Ph.d student from CAMP-Nano.
“The theoretical and modeling skills are really a great complementation to the knowledge of our experimental guys” Longchao Huang is excited about the wonderful lectures. He is a second year master student, “I’m going to step in my Ph.d career, what I learned from here will be of great value for my future research.”
Besides the scheduled lectures in the day, all the campers would get together at night in Prof. Shan’s room to have a sharing meeting, in which we reviewed what we learnt and discussed over what we found intriguing.
All the 7 campers received the Fulfillment Certificates, and the following photo demonstrates the happy ending:
